St Matt’s bring it to the Boyle

By Staff Reporter
St Patrick's 1 --

Ciaran Boyle stole the show with his man of the match performance that earned him four goals to cap off an excellent afternoon for himself and his team-mates.

St Matt’s dominated from the off but couldn’t find the net in the opening period before Black latched on to McCrory’s pass and slotted home.

The floodgates opened after that with Prigent getting his goal from the penalty spot after a hand ball.

Boyle got his first of the game after a great passage of play down the right involving Pollock, Coleman and Black who crossed for Boyle to head past the stranded St Pat’s keeper.

St Pat’s got their goal straight from the centre when St Matt’s were caught sleeping at the back, allowing Paddy Murphy to slot past Gibson in nets.

Boyle got his second just before half time when he took on the St Pat’s defence before sending an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Half-time: 4-1.

The second half started with Catney, Napier, McVeigh and Murdock replacing Black, Pollock, Prigent and Curran

St Matt’s, and Boyle, continued where they left off and it wasn’t long before the ball was in the net when Boyle got on the end of an excellent cross from Catney. Catney joined in on the action when he rounded the keeper to make it 6-1.

Conor Matthews was then denied by a good save and with time running out Boyle got his fourth when he turned his marker and coolly placed the ball into the bottom corner.

The result gives St Matt’s a massive boost ahead of their cup final at Solitude against Aquinas (Thursday 26 April 7.30pm). The boys have been great all season and hopefully they finish on a high on Thursday night.
