THE annual Féile wouldn’t be Féile without the now-traditional closing night of punchy ska and two-tone. This year, organisers are delighted to announce that the one and only Ska legends The Selecter will be playing the Falls Park marquee on Sunday, August 10, with Mainly Madness as barnstorming support.
Music fans will be able to hear The Selecter’s classic debut album, Too Much Pressure, in its entirety plus many more unforgettable hits from the groundbreaking band.
Mixing punk, ska and reggae, Too Much Pressure contains the irresistible hits On My Radio, Three Minute Hero and Missing Words. It successfully reflected the social and political issues of the early Thatcher years in Britain and gave a voice to disaffected youth across the racial divide.
2014 is The Selecter’s 35th anniversary and West Belfast audiences will be able to catch one of the most visceral and important ska acts ever, featuring the female icon of the two-tone era, Pauline Black, and Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson. The dynamic and talented duo will take centre-stage in what is the band’s best line-up.
Féile director Kevin Gamble told us: “This is another great piece in the August Féile jigsaw. It wouldn’t be Féile without our closing ska night. With The Selecter, we’ve managed to bring one of the biggest and best of those classic acts to the Falls Park and it should be a closing night to remember. Alongside Kaiser Chiefs, Boyzone and the Wolfe Tones, plus our big dance night and comedy night acts to be announced shortly, this is shaping up to be the biggest and best Féile ever.”
