BELFAST Suicide Awareness United travelled to Downpatrick to play against the Downpatrick MUSC in the Downpatrick Charity Cup in aid of suicide awareness.

BSA United fell to their first defeat over 90 minutes after some controversial decisions that swayed the game in Downpatrick’s favour.

BSA held firm at the back with great tackles from Tony Maguire and captain marvel, Stevie ‘the Wall’ McAuley.

The game was played in high spirits with goals for BSA coming from Paul Armstrong and their prolific striker, Rab O’Neill.

Rab could have got four goals on the day but came up against a great opponent in Paul ‘Smokey’ Pleasants, Downpatrick’s captain, who battled all day with the BSA United striker.

BSA United missed the chance to draw level near the end of the game when Terri Louise Gibson fired her penalty straight at the Downpatrick goalkeeper.

However, over £300 was raised on the day by the two teams.

BSA United would like to thank Mary, Smokey and Doran’s Bar for their hospitality and also to C Russell Motors of Downpatrick, who sponsored the game.
