Big crowd expected at rally for Marian

What Price freedom?

By Gráinne Brinkley

A LARGE crowd is expected on the streets of West Belfast on Sunday to  show their support for veteran local republican Marian Price as her prison nightmare goes on. The rally comes as the 58-year-old’s health continues to deteriorate as she is held in isolation at Hydebank Women’s Prison – despite being granted bail on  charges brought against her. The word ‘internment’ is back on the lips of the West Belfast public.

Pauline Mellon from the Justice for Marian Campaign said Ms Price is now in need of “urgent medical intervention” from the effects of her continued isolation and the severe arthritis she suffers from.

“The Justice for Marian campaign and Marian’s family would call on the public to support Marian by joining the march this Sunday,” said Pauline.

Both Sinn Féin and the SDLP have been holding meetings this week, with the Minister for Justice and the Secretary of State, as concern builds.

Also throwing their weight behind the Marian campaign is ex-prisoners support group Coiste na nIarchimí.

“Marian Price should be released as instructed at her bail hearing,” said Coiste’s Michael Culbert as the campaign to release the West Belfast woman intensified. See the rest below.
