Voice of GAA gets ready for celebrations

By Gemma Burns

Legendary GAA commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh will be in Glengormley next weekend for a weekend of celebrations at a local GAA club. The voice of Gaelic games will be at St Enda’s GAA club on Friday (May 4) and Saturday (May 5) as the Hightown club mark the official opening of both their new school building and new pitches.

On Friday the RTÉ commentator will officially open the new building for Gaelscoil Eanna, one of the most rapidly growing Irish medium schools on the island of Ireland.

On Saturday he will also officially launch play on St Enda’s GAA club’s new pitch.

The weekend will see a range of events and activities at the club with a ceili on Friday afternoon, a concert by the Raparees on Friday night and a comedy night featuring Paddy McDonald on Saturday night.

There will also be an intensive Irish language course on the Saturday.

On Monday the annual Sean Fox day will be held in memory of the club’s former president who was murdered in his Harmin Park home by a UVF gang on 25 October 1993 at the age of 72.

The day will include activities and games for children and adults.
