Testing time for foreign nationals at job centre

By Paul Ainsworth

A NEW service allowing foreign nationals to compare qualifications for local job applications has been launched in South Belfast.

The Shaftesbury Square Jobs and Benefits Office launched the service last week, which was welcomed by the South Belfast-based NI Council for Ethnic Minorities. Director Patrick Yu. Employment Minister Stephen Farry turned up at the site for the launch.

“It’s an important process to assist foreign nationals on their recognised qualification under the UK and EU system,” Mr Yu said.

Through our migrant service we will work closely with the Department for Employment and Learning to refer people to this new service.”

Mr Farry added: “Workers from other EU states and indeed beyond, play an important role in our workforce and the wider economy.

“This service will allow individuals to speak to advisors and have their qualifications checked against the UK equivalent.”
