Crime is falling in West Belfast
THE LATEST police figures have revealed that crime is dropping in West Belfast. The statistics, which cover the 2011/12 financial year, show that crime has dropped in the West by 0.2 per cent and also that crime detection rates have improved by 3.1 per cent.
Two more local girls in beauty finals
TWO West Belfast girls are among 26 from across the North competing for the title of Miss Northern Ireland next week – putting the West of the city firmly at the top of the Irish beauty league. TRIBUTES have been paid to the founder of a cross-community organisation that helped hundreds of West Belfast families during the height of the Troubles. Dr Ray Davey, founder of the Corrymeela Community, passed away on Monday at the age of 95.
Gerard lights the way for others
A North Belfast man who lost his son to suicide seven years ago has been chosen as one of the London 2012 Olympic torchbearers who will carry the iconic flame across the North. Oldpark man Gerard McCartan, whose son Danny took his own life in 2005, has been a member of PIPS suicide support group along with his wife Carol for a number of years campaigning for better mental health care in the north.
