Family is forced to flee home

A LAGMORE family who fled their home of 17 years to escape anti-social behaviour say they’ve been left “high and dry” by the police and by the Housing Executive.The Blake family have left their Altan Gardens home to restart their lives in Scotland after what that say were three years of threatening and intimidating behaviour directed against them and their neighbours, including verbal and physical abuse, intimidation, the death of a family pet and the delivery of a funeral wreath to their home.

High rise mum pleads for new home

A North Belfast couple who have been forced to live out of one bedroom in an eleventh floor tower block flat with their two young children have pleaded with the Housing Executive to find them a home. Nikita Geer and her partner Barry McGuinness have been sharing a flat on the eleventh floor of Cú Chulainn House in the New Lodge with a family member as well as the couple’s eight week old baby son and 14 month old daughter.

A heartbroken mum who was forced to leave her dying baby to let paramedics in to her New Lodge apartment complex has said the newborn could have been saved had emergency services been able to access their home sooner.

Group repair scheme complaints

North Belfast homeowners who had a group repair scheme carried out by the Housing Executive in 2007 said their homes have had damp and flooding problems since the work was done. Residents living in Newington were part of a HE group repair scheme that was done on homes in the area five years ago. Under the scheme homes that are privately owned have work done including replacement of roofs, rebuilding of chimneys, replacement of doors and windows and replacement of guttering in order to improve neighbourhoods.

No action on damp house

A pregnant North Belfast woman who has pleaded with the Housing Executive to repair her damp sodden home says assurances made to her that the problems would be addressed have not been followed through. Julie Ann Kingham contacted the North Belfast News in January to express her concern about the damp problem in her Oldpark home and how it was affecting the health of her asthma suffering daughter Demi-Lee.
