A recent upsurge in interface clashes organised on the internet have led to calls for police to step up their monitoring of the area ahead of a planned Tour of the North parade. Over the past three weekends ‘recreational rioting’ between gangs of youths on the Limestone Road and Alexandra Park has been on the rise with clashes being organised through social networking websites.
Waterworks escapee rustles cops feathers
Bank holiday motorists came in for a surprise on Monday morning (June 4) when a fully-grown swan came causally walking up the Antrim Road. The animal, which had escaped from the pond in the Waterworks, was seen flying low over cars at around 10am.
Tweeting from tree but it’s not a bird
A campaign to give local people ownership of a North Belfast wood has taken a step forward with the set up of a unique Twitter account for a tree. A horse chestnut tree in Throne Wood, between the Antrim Road and Whitewell Road, has been given its own Twitter account @HorseChestnut1. The tree began tweeting on the micro blogging site last month.
