SDLP South Belfast MP Dr Alasdair McDonnell has condemned those responsible for a security alert after a viable device was left in Bradbury Place on Friday night.

Dr McDonnell said business in Belfast was fighting hard to compete in tough times and any attempt to target trade was grossly irresponsible.

He said: “I condemn this incident, those responsible have no role to play in this society as long as they continue on this path.

“Businesses in Belfast, and in Bradbury Place where many of our  bars and restaurants are located, are fighting hard against the current economic tide and do not need the added pressure of competing against viable devices.

“Many workers had to wait several hours this morning before they could get to their place of work. That’s unacceptable.

“I urge anybody with information to pass it to the PSNI immediately.”
