UPWARDS of 59 adult immunology patients at the Royal Victoria Hospital have been offered review appointments “as a precautionary measure” following a Belfast Health Trust report.

The report, carried out by an independent expert, was commissioned by the Trust after concerns were raised about the management of some patients. Belfast Health Trust Medical Director, Dr Tony Stevens, said patients were being asked to come in for a review “to reassure them and ourselves that the treatment and care they are receiving is appropriate to their needs”.

“Anyone who needs to be contacted will have received a phone call or letter by 5pm on Wednesday (October 19) offering an appointment over the next two to three weeks at a time that suits them best,” he said.

The Trust has established an advice line for anyone who may feel concerned or anxious.  It will be open from 8am to 6pm until Friday (October 21).  The number is 028 90636330.
