WELLINGTON college pupils have taken part in an educational outreach programme ahead of this year’s Cinemagic festival.

The annual celebration of film for young people is holding a ‘Reel Issues for Youth’ project, bringing debates on cinema and guest speakers to schools across the North.

In the Carolan Road school one of the classrooms was recently transformed into a mini-cinema for the day, with a screening of a film on community relations and a talk from filmmaker Mal Marken.

This was followed by a debate on community integration, sparked by the ideas in the film. Gareth Wright from Phoenix Gas, who sponsored the programme said: “We are delighted to support this project and it was great to see the passion the youngsters showed when it came to discussing the importance of improving community relations both at a local level and worldwide.”

The Cinemagic festival begins on November 16.
