SOUTH Belfast’s Ulster Museum is hosting a new display of ‘street art’ including work by the infamous Banksy.
A collection of graffiti-inspired art from London’s Victoria and Albert Museum will be on display from December 9, while a number of Belfast artists will also have their work included in the exhibition dubbed ‘Tags Not Labels’.
Kim Mawhinney, Head of Art at National Museums NI explained: “Tags Not Labels showcases some of our finest and most vibrant local street artists.
“We have selected work from artists we believe the public will be excited to see in our galleries for the first time.
“It’s unlike anything we have offered our visitors before, and we hope it will attract lots of interest especially from our younger audiences.”
Artist Marian Noone, aka ‘Friz’ is based in South Belfast, but originally hails from Sligo. She has been selected to have her classical animation-inspired work hung alongside street art legends like Banksy, whose controversial art has taken street art to a wider audience in recent years.
“I’m delighted to have received the commission from the Ulster Museum,” she said.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to be exhibiting in such a prestigious gallery.”
