Six vehicles targeted in weekend destruction

Lone man smashes up cars

A lone vandal went on the rampage in North Belfast at the weekend smashing the windows of cars along one of the area’s busiest roads.

On Saturday morning residents on the Cliftonville Road woke up to discover six of their cars had been vandalised in a random attack. It is believed the vandalism was the work of one lone male as he made his way up the road.

The incident has been condemned by local community worker Manus Maguire who said local people were fed up with random acts of violence on the road.

“This is a big inconvenience for local people to wake up to their car windows put in,” he said.

“Even with insurance they are still left without their cars while they tried to get it fixed. This mindless vandalism seems a regular enough thing on the road and people are fed up with it.”

A PSNI spokesman said they received a report that a man in a checked shirt had smashed windows in six cars in the area at around 7.45am on Saturday. It is believed that he made off towards the Cliftonville Circus area.

“Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact Tennent Street Police Station on 0845 600 8000,” he said,

“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
