WEST Belfast families will be able to ice-skate in a winter wonderland as the area’s first ice rink comes to the Kennedy Centre.

The brainchild of the Féile an Phobail team, the ice rink will open at the local shopping centre next week with excitement already building among budding Torvill and Deans keen to try out the ice from next Thursday.

Féile Director Kevin Gamble said it was always the intention of the team to bring Feile25 to an fittingly festive conclusion.

“We really pulled out all the stops for Feile 25 this year with the marquee in the Falls Park housing some massive musical giants,” said Kevin.

“It was a fantastic success and the ice rink is really our way of bringing 2013 to a memorable close before we start preparing for 2014.”

“We wanted to bring the ice rink to the heart of the community where it is accessible for all families and we anticipate that this will really get people into the Christmas spirit,” he said.

Kennedy Centre Manager John Jones said he was delighted to be welcoming another additional service to the centre for visitors and families. This is fantastic news for the Kennedy Centre and for the area especially coming up to Christmas to add that little bit extra of festive cheer. The ice rink is a first for West Belfast and a first for the Kennedy Centre to help our customers enhance their Christmas shopping experience with us.”
