Harry set to return to Belfast

By Francesca Ryan

West Belfast businessman Harry Fitzsimons is expected to return home shortly after he was freed from jail in Italy where he was being held as part of a £400m Mafia investigation.

An arrest warrant for the Andersonstown man was issued by the Italian police in March last year in connection with an alleged money-laundering scheme run by Italy’s southern Mafia, the ’Ndrangheta.

Harry was extradited from Senegal to Italy last August where he had been held in a Rome prison up until his release this week.

Harry Fitzsimons has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to his involvement in a  property venture in the Calabria region, telling the Ander-sonstown News last year that the allegations were “absurd and surreal”.

“It is a shocking allegation which is causing great distress to my family,” he added.
