A Belfast dog has had a new leash of life after signing up to take part in a sponsored charity walk and becoming the first dog to have a page on the internet sponsorship site Just Giving.

Pawsome Finaghy pooch Leo, a year-old Pomeranian, is to take part in the 2015 Hospice Walk and the money is already coming in.

Leo’s owner, Emma Montgomery, said she takes part in the gruelling walk every year but decided this time she didn’t want to ruff it without her beloved pet.

“My mum and I do the walk every year because the Hospice cared for my granddad and we want to give something back,” she said.

“I got Leo last year and we all call him His Lordship because he’ so pampered. I thought that while I was planning to do the walk this year he could come too. So I set up the Just Giving page and people started sponsoring him.”

So far Leo has raised over £100 for the walk on 28 March and the figure is rising. So how is Leo’s training coming along for the walk?

“He hasn’t been doing any,” laughed Emma. “He’ll be fine on the day, though, and will have a great time taking part. It’s a fantastic cause and we were delighted to see he is the first dog to raise money on Just Giving. The more money we raise for the Hospice the better.”
