NURSERY schools across South Belfast are being encouraged to sign up for the Ulster Cancer Foundation’s (UCF) Big Pyjama Party.
The fun initiative offers children the chance to get involved with an “interactive storytelling session”, in which a UCF rep will visit the nursery on an agreed date and read from a book entitled ‘Starring Genevieve’, a tale about one goat’s desire to be healthy.
All money raised goes towards the UCF’s Family Support Service, which helps minimise the impact of disruption caused by a family member’s illness.
The organisation’s Cancer Prevention Officer Clare Smith explained: “All nursery and play school children will benefit from being involved in this interactive and engaging storytelling session. The children will learn about positive health behaviours while teachers and leaders will become aware of the key cancer prevention messages. We’ll also explain how they can integrate the messages into their children’s learning.
The ‘Starring Genevieve’ book supports the Northern Ireland curriculum and can be used to complement teaching in areas such as language and literacy, personal development and mutual understanding.”
