Flasher alert

By Staff Reporter

Residents of Poleglass have been put on the alert after a man  indecently exposed himself to a group of local people. Friday night’s incident is the most recent in a number of unsettling occurrences in the district and local community workers have not ruled out the possibility that the incidents are linked.

A man indecently exposed himself to a group of people near the entrance to Colin Glen Forest on Friday night at 11pm. The man is described as being in his 30s and was wearing a dark coloured hoody with a star shaped logo on it. The incident comes less than two weeks after a man tried to drag a woman into bushes at nearby Cloona Lane. The man jumped on a 66-year-old woman in broad daylight causing her to scream, he exposed himself before fleeing back into the bushes.

Local Sinn Féin Councillor  Stephen Magennis has warned the public to be careful.

“It’s alarming that there are people like that out there doing this,” he said.  “Clearly they are a danger to the community and people need to be on the alert.

“I would also encourage people to contact community workers or the police if they see someone suspicious because that’s the only way we will get to the bottom of it.”

Anyone who noticed any unusual activity in the area or who has any information is asked to contact police in Lisburn on 0845 600 8000.
