The family of Joby Murphy has appealed to the people of West Belfast for help in their bid to find their son’s body. Four weeks have passed since the 20-year-old fell from a footbridge into the River Lagan after a night out. Every day since the tragedy, Joby’s father has been at the harbour doing all he can to recover his son’s body.
The Murphys, who are originally from Clonard and still have family living in the lower Falls, are asking for local assistance to keep up the search after the official search was scaled back this week.
Speaking to the Andersonstown News, Joby’s father Joe says all help would be appreciated.
“We are not giving up hope of finding Joby,” he said. “They can scale back the search but we are not giving up. I have been here every single day since this happened and I will be here until he is found.
“We are appealing to anyone who can help to do so. West Belfast man Joe Greenan has already lent us his boat and we will be using that around the lough.
“If anyone else has a boat and would like to help, we would greatly appreciate it.
“Also we are walking and checking the banks, so if anyone wants to help us do that too, they are more than welcome to come down here this weekend and do it.
“We just want to bring Joby home and we are not prepared to give up until we can do that.”
