A creative bunch of kids from Newtownabbey have unveiled a brand new mosaic they designed at a local park.
The new piece, made by pupils from Ashgrove and St Mary’s on the Hill Primary Schools, takes its inspiration from nature and will be the centre piece for the community garden at Lilian Bland Community Park in Glengormley.
The Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman Victor Robinson and Catherine Hardy, Chairperson of Glengormley Community Group unveiled the piece last Friday (November 30).
Working with artist Sally Houston, the mosaic was designed taking inspiration from nature with images including butterflies and flowers.
Newtownabbey Borough Council’s biodiversity staff Lindsay Matthews and Rosie Irwin have been working with Glengormley Community Group, local residents and conservation volunteers to create a shared community space for all to benefit from and enjoy, resulting in the Lilian Bland Community Garden.
Funded by the Alpha Programme and supported by the Conservation Volunteers NI and Newtownabbey Borough Council, the community garden is a place for people to come and get involved in community growing, gardening, volunteering and to be inspired and engaged with their local green space.
