A LOCAL councillor is calling on the relevant statutory agencies to knock their heads together and come to an agreement on roundabout maintenance in West Belfast.
Sinn Féin Councillor Caoimhín Mac Giolla Mhín said it’s high time those whose job it is to maintain the single roundabout on the Glen Road finally shouldered their responsibilities.
“It is my intention to hold meetings with the Department for Regional Development and Belfast City Council to try and work together in securing something concrete when it comes to the maintenance of this roundabout.
“It has been three weeks now since contact was made with the DRD over the state of the growth and foliage at the Glen Road roundabout and no-one has come out even to look at it. It is now a serious health and safety issue.
“If you look at the beautiful Michael Ferguson roundabout at the gateway to the Colin area it is a prime example of what can be done when people work together. I will be looking into possible private sector sponsorship for this and the Kennedy Way site.
“Action needs to be taken at this site,” he added.
A spokesperson for the DRD said: “Roads Service has made arrangements to have the foliage on the Glen Road Roundabout cut back.
“This work is programmed to take place within the next week.”
