For many parents selecting the right childcare for their child is one of the biggest decisions they’ll ever make. A special event in Newtowenabbey next week aims to make that decision a little easier.

This Wednesday (September 7, 10am to 5pm) the Childminding Association NICMA is holding an information roadshow in the Abbey Centre for parents who are currently seeking childcare.

Information and advice on registered childminders in the area, and on how to go about choosing the right childminder for your child will be available at the event.

“We appreciate that many parents find that the whole business of looking for childcare can seem rather overwhelming,” said Childminding Development Officer with NICMA, Fey Clark.

“That’s why we wanted to make sure that parents in the Newtownabbey area could have the opportunity to get some information and to speak face-to-face to someone who will be able to help them make the right choice.”

“We’re aware that it can be very tempting to go for an unregistered childminder who may be a little cheaper. But an unregistered childminder won’t be insured and won’t have been inspected, putting your child’s welfare at risk potentially.

“Moreover, if you use a registered childminder, you may well be eligible for the childcare element of Working Tax Credit. You won’t be able to claim that if you use an unregistered childminder.”
