Two West Belfast men have been remanded in custody following a knife attack at the weekend.Both of the accused appeared in Belfast Magistrates  Court on Monday where the court was told a father and son were attacked in their Stewartstown Avenue home by the pair who were armed with a machete, a baton and a knife.

Connor Maskey, 19 and from Bingnian Drive, and 20-year-old Alan Stanley of Ladybrook Park, are each charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

It was claimed that Mr Maskey, a university student, wielded a baton during the attack, while Mr Stanley, who appeared in the dock with facial wounds, is accused of carrying a machete to the scene of the attack.

Both victims, one aged in his twenties and one 59, suffered wounds in the attack on Saturday morning.

Opposing bail for both the accused, a detective constable said it was a “premeditated incident”.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall refused bail for the accused and the pair were remanded in custody to appear again by video-link next month.
