Changing times even in Lisburn

By Squinter

TO the excellent new Lisburn Library on Monday night, where even the raucous din of dozens of teenage schoolchildren wasn’t enough to distract from the elegant and tastefully appointed facility.

Making his way home, Squinter notices that the plasma screen in the lobby is extolling the virtues of the Culture Department’s innovative Líofa scheme, which is aiming to convince lots of people to sign up to a deadline for fluency in the Irish language.

A real sign of changing times in Lisburn, where the pace of change doesn’t always seem to be as rapid as many in the City for Some might like.

Apologies, by the way, for the poor quality of Squinter’s mobile phone picture. The snap was taken in haste and in secrecy lest somebody should notice and object. Old suspicions die hard.
