Is it me or are we all gone a bit mad on this McGuinness-Windsor handshake thing? Everyone – English, Irish, unionist, nationalist, man, woman possibly a cyborg or two – seems convinced that this meeting/handshake is important, very significant and/or very very symbolic. Outgoing head’s mixed emotions after ‘wonderful ten years’ at Holy Rosary

A well known principal who is leaving his position at a local primary school after a decade of service has spoken of his “mixed emotions” at moving on from the area. Sean Merrick, who has been the principal at Holy Rosary Primary School for the past ten years will take up the principal’s position at Our Lady of Lourdes, Park Lodge Primary School in North Belfast at the start of the new school term in September.

Flags tarnish move on mural

A loyalist area of South Belfast has come in for criticism for the flying of paramilitary flags despite a separate move to paint over a highly contentious mural in the area this week. South Belfast MLA Conall McDevitt has called for immediate action in removing UVF and UDA flags flying from private houses in Sandy Row just as the area also received positive attention for painting over an infamous UFF mural on the edge of the loyalist stronghold.
