Don’t allow park facilities to slide

The people of Ligoniel have been urged to take ownership of a local park that is currently been refurbished after years of vandalism and misuse. The Tír na Nóg park in the heart of Ligoniel has been the target of vandalism and malicious fires for a number of years. The site has also been used as a gathering point for youths to drink alcohol, take drugs and engage ion other antisocial behaviour.

Failte mór for Irish speaking paramedic

Pupils at a North Belfast Irish medium nursery school gave a failte mór to an Irish speaking paramedic this week. Naíscoil Mhic Reachtain, based in the 174 Trust on the Antrim Road, were visited by Dave Lavery of the Ambulance Service. Dave, who is the only paramedic working in Irish with the gaelscoils, said the children were a delight to work with.

Third armed robbery on store in two months

A North Belfast shop owner has vowed she will not be put out of business after the third armed robbery of her store in just two months. On Friday (January 20) four male youths, one armed with a hammer, entered the Your Store at the corner of the Cavehill Road and Willowbank Gardens. They threatened the terrified assistant before making off with a sum of money.

Young boxer shocked and shaken after dog bite

A North Belfast boy has been left shocked and shaken after he was bitten by a dog and had to undergo emergency surgery this week. Newington 10-year-old John McGrath was bitten by the dog in the Grove playing fields on Monday. The youngster had been running through the park when the dog bit him on the hand, severely damaging his tendons.
