A husband and wife have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a West Belfast man.Charles Stephen Valliday, 40, and Julie-Ann Valliday, 35, of Powerscourt Place in South Belfast, are charged with murdering Christopher Mackin, who was shot dead near the city centre a week ago.

Shooting ‘achieved nothing’
A LOCAL MLA has said those responsible for a weekend paramilitary-style shooting in Twinbrook have no support in the local community. At around 9.10am on Sunday, March 4, a 20-year-old man received a gunshot wound to the leg in the Glasvey Close area and required hospital treatment.
Terry and Oorlagh bring Oscar home
TWINBROOK Oscar-winner Terry George made a return visit to his native West Belfast this week after picking up the coveted award for his short film ‘The Shore’. Terry and daughter Oorlagh, who produced the film, braved the heights of Divis Tower with the Andersonstown News to give their Oscar statuettes a panoramic view of the place where it all began.

The Belfast Media Group’s very own Ed McGinley, of Annadale Striders, had the race of his life in Dublin on Sunday to take the Irish InterClub Cross Country title at Santry. The 29 year-old, who is sports editor of the South Belfast News and the North Belfast News, led from the start to finish first in the 12 kilometre event, but had a trio of Clonliffe Harriers runners in attendance from early on.
‘Find carjackers before tragedy strikes’
These are the faces of the men the PSNI are seeking to speak to in relation to a spate of carjackings in the city. At a press conference held at Woodbourne police station, a PSNI team, along with members of Families Bereaved Through Car Crime, launched a dedicated phone line for the community to offer information on those depicted in the photo-fits – and anyone else suspected to be involved in the crime wave.
