It’s all academic for former Barney head
The former principal of a North Belfast school is to be honoured at the University of Ulster’s graduation ceremonies this summer. PJ O’Grady, who retired as principal of St Patrick’s Bearnageeha last year, will receive an honorary doctorate for his role in helping to transform the school and for his contribution to the local community.
Uni move plans take a step closer
Plans to relocate the University Of Ulster’s Jordanstown campus to North Belfast have taken a step forward as the university began their consultation process last week. The proposal to move the campus to North Belfast has been in the pipeline for a number of years.

Thieves steal alleygates
Vulnerable peoples’ homes in Ardoyne are now more at risk after large steel gates were stolen from a community group this week. That’s the view of a leading community worker after thieves broke a padlock to gain entrance to the back yard of the Ardoyne Association’s offices on Enta Drive and stole six of the alley gates valued at around £6,000 in total.
Council waives fee for pro-Israeli lobby group
A pro-Israeli lobby group will hold an event at Newtownabbey Borough Council headquarters next month free of charge after the council voted to waive the fee normally charged to outside groups. The Friends of Israel group had applied to the council to hold a showcase event in March and show a film on the history of the Jewish people in the Middle East and North Africa.
