The armed hijacking of a car in Ligoniel last Thursday night (November 29) which was found burnt out in Ardoyne is being linked to an incident in Cliftonville when two masked men broke in to a house.

At around 5pm last Thursday a man was sitting in his car on the Ligoniel Road when a man armed with a gun got in to the passenger seat and forced him to drive to Elmfield Street in Ardoyne.

There, two other men appeared and the driver was forced to get out of the silver coloured Ford Mondeo.

Then at around 5.30pm two masked men entered a house in Cardigan Drive off the Cliftonville Road and, according to police, “had a look around and left”. No-one was injured in the incident.

The car was found burned out in Jamaica Street at approximately 9.30pm.

Police are appealing for any information about the incidents to contact them at Tennent Street Police Station on 0845 600 8000. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
